Safi (the "app") is a mobile app that scans product ingredients and gives you information from a halal and health perspective. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains which data we process, why and how.
1. Data we collect
Scan data: The barcode number you enter or the label photo you take is processed only in order to analyse the ingredients. Photos are not stored permanently on our servers; they are discarded once the analysis is finished.
Scan history: A summary of the products you have scanned is stored only in your device's own storage and is never sent to the server. If you delete the app, that history goes with it.
Device identifier: To count your total free scans, the app creates a randomly generated identifier (a UUID) on your device and sends it to the server with each request. It is not Apple's device identifier (IDFA/IDFV) and contains no direct identity information. It is used only for the total allowance and subscription checks; it is stored on the server with the number of scans used and is not linked to another identity. Deleting the app removes the copy on your device.
Technical data: The IP address of requests is kept temporarily for rate limiting, in order to prevent abuse.
2. Services we share data with
Anthropic (Claude): The ingredient text or image is processed in order to explain the ingredients in plain language.
Open Food Facts: Product information is looked up by barcode (open database).
RevenueCat and your app store: Safi Premium subscriptions are handled through the App Store or Google Play on your device.
3. No account needed
You do not need to create an account or sign in to use Safi. The app has no accounts, no profiles and no passwords; we never ask for your name, e-mail address or phone number. Your data is not synchronised between devices.
4. Storage and security
Scan images are not stored permanently. Data is transmitted over an encrypted connection. Your scan history stays on your device.
5. Your rights
You can delete the history on your device from inside the app. Deleting the app also removes the random device identifier. You can contact us with any question about your data.
6. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
